Kyle’s Review of Sandals Royal Bahamian
Our travel expert Kyle Smith and his wife Kat just returned from a stay at Sandals Royal Bahamian. This all-inclusive, adults-only property is located in Nassau, Bahamas. Read more on what they thought about this property below!
Firstly, Kat & Kyle loved that Nassau was such an easy and quick trip from Omaha. They flew out of Eppley Airfield in the morning and arrived in Nassau at noon. This makes it perfect for a short getaway – they stayed four nights. This wasn’t just any quick trip, however! Sandals Royal Bahamian is a sophisticated and elegant European property. In fact, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor used to stay here quite often! Kyle & Kat stayed in a Club Level Garden View Suite in Windsor Tour, which I can only assume is named after the famed royal couple.
Sandals Island: Sandals Royal Bahamian’s Exclusive Private Island
One of the most amazing aspects of Sandals Royal Bahamian is their exclusive private offshore island, aptly named Sandals Island. It is only five minutes by Sandals boat from the resort. The island has all of the amenities you’d expect at a five-star resort, including a private beach and pool, two restaurants, and even nightly entertainment. This is also a great place for snorkeling or simply relaxing in a hammock or private cabana.
Activities
Guests of the property can enjoy two sky-sized pools overlooking the emerald sea. There is also a lagoon-style pool on Sandals Island.
Once you tire of the pool, check out some of the other activities offered at Sandals Royal Bahamian. Sandals offers one of the most comprehensive scuba diving programs anywhere. Plus, it’s all included! If scuba diving isn’t your thing, check out the wide variety off water sports available to you. All water sports are included here, including water-skiing and waterboarding, tubing, snorkeling, and much more. Sandals also has their own fleet of glass bottom boats.
5-Star Global Gourmet™ Dining
In addition, the property serves their signature 5-Star Global Gourmet™ dining at 10 specialty restaurants – yes, 10! Kyle & Kat loved Gordon’s on the Pier, which sits over the water and is open for dinner only. This “Seafood Lover’s Paradise” brings a unique twist to seafood dishes, from classics like Surf & Turf, to saffron-infused seafood Bouillabaisse. If you are in the mood for an absolute feast, order the Grilled Reef Crustacean Platter. This platter includes fresh, fire-grilled crustaceans with lemon butter sauce and lobster bisque. Riu Palace Baja California is great for adult groups.
Riu Palace Baja California is great for adult groups for many reasons. Firstly, guests of Riu Palace Baja California have access to neighboring Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas and Riu Santa Fe. You will find that Riu Santa Fe has more of a party atmosphere relative to the other 2 properties. They are famous for their Riu Pool Parties and they also have an on-site nightclub. Again, you have access to all of this as a guest of the Baja California property!
Riu Palace Baja California has 4 main pool areas of its own and 2 of these have swim-up pool bars. You also have access to all of the pools at Riu Santa Fe and Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas!
“I loved the resort and would highly recommend it for social groups looking for a fun, upbeat atmosphere,” Brandi told us.
Delicious, fresh food at Riu Palace Baja California
The main restaurant, Promenade, offers authentic American buffet breakfasts with show cooking, and buffet options for lunch and dinner as well.
“I thought the variety was great and the food was always fresh. One of my favorite options for dinner was the Guacamole Steakhouse which is located poolside (pictured above). Some of the others in our group really enjoyed the Yu Hi Japanese Restaurant.”
The resort also has a Fusion, Indian, and an Italian Restaurant in the evenings. A popular spot for a quick lunch during the day is Pepe’s which had street tacos, hamburgers, nachos, etc. There are also a number of bars/lounges at the resort. The Gold Bar is located near the theater area where there was nightly entertainment.
The rooms also offer 24-hour room service with a limited menu.
Amazing Views of Cabo San Lucas
“Cabo is one of my favorite destinations due to the beautiful scenery. The views of the rock formations from the RIU Resorts are amazing,” Brandi noted.
We also love Cabo because there is so much to do and Riu Palace Baja California really gives you easy access to it all!
“Our group booked a water taxi at the resort which took us on a tour where we got great pictures of El Arco, the Pacific Window, and Scooby-Doo Rock. We also stopped at the famous Lover’s Beach, one of the best swimmable beaches in Cabo. We were then able to walk around town for a while to experience the shops and bars in town around the Marina.”
