Disney World is a great vacation destination for families. You’ll find unique experiences there. Disney is expanding rapidly, most noticeably with a slew of brand new attractions announced in 2017. With new attractions at every Disney Park, it can definitely seem overwhelming! Below, we’ll guide you through the six most anticipated new attractions and innovations announced in 2017!
Newest Attractions Announced in 2017!
-
Pandora – The World of Avatar
Pandora opened at the end of May 2017 and became the largest expansion in the theme park’s history. Inspired by the 2009 film “Avatar”, visitors will truly feel transported to the lush planet of Pandora inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom. There are two rides you’ll find here: Na’vi River Journey and Flight of Passage. On the River Journey, a boat ride snakes through a dark river hidden inside a luminescent cave. Flight of Passage allows visitors to ride their very own banshee (which is a flying, friendly animals of the planet of Pandora). This simulated trip takes you above Pandora to see the colorful scenery and floating mountains.
-
Toy Story Land
The much-anticipated Toy Story Land is finally slated to open this coming summer of 2018 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Toy Story Midway Mania opened this past May, so with the opening of Toy Story Land approaching, Midway Mania will be getting an expansion. The expansion includes a new ride that takes passengers on an adventure under Andy’s bed. Attractions inside the new Toy Story Land will include the Slinky Dog Dash (which takes riders through Andy’s backyard on the back of the Slinky Dog character). Also in the mix is Alien Swirling Saucers, which will attract those who loved the adorable, creepy claw-aliens from the first Toy Story’s Pizza Planet. This ride spins guests around in flying saucers while the aliens chase you with the claw!
-
Ratatouille: The Adventure
Ratatouille: The Adventure is a dark, trackless ride on which riders are “shrunk” to the size of Remy (the rat and beloved main character) and the story is shown from his point of view. The cars cross the roofs of Paris, dive into Gusteau’s restaurant, run across the floor, past scenes of 3D animation, and under tables and ovens. However, stay tuned – the exact opening date hasn’t come out yet.
Vacation Innovations Announced in 2017!

Walt Disney World is known as the most magical place on earth, but this is especially true during the holidays. Spending your holiday vacation and PTO on a Disney Christmas is something that we don’t think you will ever regret. Keep reading for everything you can expect when you book a trip to Disney World this holiday season.

Stunning Holiday Decor
Every park and resort at Walt Disney World is completely decked out in holiday lights and glitter from November through mid-January. Even the rides join in on the fun of Disney Christmas, transforming into holiday-themed experiences. Take Disney World’s Jungle Cruise for example. During the holidays, it turns in the Jingle Cruise. Known as a “holiday overlay”, the story is that the skippers from the Jungle Cruise become homesick during the holiday season, so they added their own Christmas decor to the boathouse and the cruise. Disney also announced the Hollywood Studios will add a holiday overlay to Toy Story Land this year. In addition, Cinderella’s Castle in Magic Kingdom is absolutely breathtaking during the holidays, done up in icicles and holiday lights that cannot be missed.
The resorts take part in Disney Christmas fun as well. If you’re going during the holidays, we suggest you stay at the Grand Floridian. This is home to the Gingerbread House. The life-size structure isn’t just for looks! It also functions as a holiday gift shop. And yes, it is truly all edible!
One thing that Walt Disney World is not lacking in is Christmas trees! Throughout the parks you’ll find giant trees with ornate details and themes. Check out Disney Springs Christmas Tree Trail, which boasts 25 Disney-themed trees.

Amazing Holiday Events
The biggest holiday event of the season is Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. You can join the celebration on select evenings at Magic Kingdom in November and December. You do have to pay extra for the event, but we think it is well worth it. Kids and adults alike will love the holiday dance and song entertainment, “snow” falling on Main Street, and delicious holiday treats (more on those later!). In addition, your ticket grants you shorter lines to Magic Kingdom’s many attractions.
Besides Magic Kingdom, Epcot has some of the best Christmas events of the season. One such event is the International Festival of the Holidays. From mid-November to the end of December, you can sample traditional holiday food and drinks from Epcot’s 11 World Showcase nations.
Epcot is also home to the Candlelight Processional. This free event takes the audience through the story of Christmas. The story comes to life with a 50-piece orchestra and a huge choir. In addition, they host many celebrity narrators. For the 2018 holiday season, guest narrators include Neil Patrick Harris, Whoopi Goldberg, and more.
As if that weren’t enough, many of the other parks join in the holiday fun with Christmas-themed nighttime shows. Disney’s Animal Kingdom will feature Diwali, the Festival of Lights in India, in their new live show UP! A Great Bird Adventure. Disney’s Hollywood Studios presents Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!, a spectacular display of music, fireworks, and special effects.

All the Holiday Details
Besides the awe-inspiring holiday decor and star-studded events, you’ll find the sweetest Christmas magic in the details. One thing the kids in your family will surely never forget is celebrating the season with their favorite Disney characters all dolled up in their holiday best. You can even meet Santa in Hollywood Studios while you’re there! For more one-on-one time with your favorite characters, book a holiday character dining experience.
You can also do all of your Christmas shopping at Disney this year. Special, often limited-edition holiday Disney merchandise can be found in all of the parks and resorts.
Perhaps one of the best reasons to visit Walt Disney World during the holiday season is to sample the special treats. The parks and resorts are brimming with holiday-themed cookies, caramel apples, and other tasty delicacies.

If you have always dreamed of a Disney honeymoon, you’ve come to the right place!

Why Honeymoon at Disney?
The Disney Parks are famous for their unparalleled hospitality for each and every guest, but they really kick it up a notch for visitors who are celebrating a special occasion. Honeymooners are no exception. You’re Enchanted Travel honeymoon expert will be sure to tell cast members (Disney employees) why you’re taking this special trip, especially when booking your room, checking in, and making dining reservations. You never know what little surprises await just around the river bend: free desert, special ride, and parade perks, or maybe even a special phone call from Mickey Mouse – not to mention attention from guests and cast members congratulating you throughout your stay.
Honeymooning at Walt Disney World can be a lavish experience, and it’s easy for the expenses to add up. But there’s no need to wish upon a star: the Disney Honeymoon Registry helps your wedding guests fund the honeymoon of your dreams. By using this online service (complimentary for Disney Resort Hotel couples), your friends and family can choose gifts and experiences directly from a Disney honeymoon catalog, including dining and theater packages, park tickets, a carriage ride – even a VIP safari!
Here are some frequently asked questions about honeymooning at Disney:
When Should We Go on our Disney Honeymoon?
Although your wedding might be in August, summer is Walt Disney World’s muggiest and most crowded season. Stick to spring and mid-fall, and avoid holidays and school breaks in order to guarantee a less crowded and more romantic honeymoon. There is nothing wrong with having a honeymoon a few months after your wedding.
How long should we stay on our Disney Honeymoon?
There’s so much to do at Walt Disney World. No one can see everything in one visit, but with a little planning (and scheduling in some downtime), you can spend your post-wedding days in bliss, not stress.
How long you stay is up to you. If you want to make sure you get in all tons of attractions and activities, you are going to need a week. The good thing is that longer your stay, the cheaper park tickets become each day. With a week, you can go to one park each day, which is plenty of time to ride all the rides (assuming you planned ahead and have FastPasses), see a show or two and relax. On days you are not at the parks you can enjoy the other many attractions at your resort or in the surrounding areas.
If you do not want to spend your whole honeymoon in Disney World, I recommend going for 2 days. This is enough time for you to hit many of the park highlights; just pick the attractions that matter most to you.
Why should we stay at a Disney Resort for our Disney Honeymoon?
Disney resorts are going to be more expensive than nearby hotels, so by looking only at the budget you may think you want to stay outside of Disney. When you look into the benefits of staying at a Disney resort, you may find that it’s worth the extra money.
Extra Magic Hours – If you stay at a Disney resort, you are allowed to experience Extra Magic Hours. This is an hour before or after a park opens for the public where only resort guest are allowed in parks. This extra hour can mean several short lines to the most popular rides.
Fast Passes – Guests staying in a Disney Resort are able to book fast passes 60 days in advance, as opposed to 30 days in advance for everyone else. For the most popular rides, it can be difficult to get a Fast Pass if you don’t book within minutes of your 60-day mark.
Extra Disney Magic – A lot of extra Disney magic will happen at your resort. You may find surprises in your room or get a few extra fast passes. In addition, you may have many more dining options in the resorts.
Ease of Transportation – By staying at a Disney resort you can take a bus to get anywhere. Beyond that, you are always close to a Disney Park.
Where should we stay for our Disney Honeymoon?
Four Seasons Resort Orlando
If you have the money, the Four Seasons is our top recommendation for a honeymoon stay at Disney for many reasons. The Four Seasons luxe rooms feature marble bathrooms and in-mirror televisions. In addition, the Four Seasons has the largest guest rooms by square foot in Orlando. Honeymooners will enjoy the simple detail of having do not disturb buttons at the side of the Four Seasons bed. Out the balcony, you will have a perfect view of the evening fireworks show. Here you will also find the only adult-only hotel at Disney.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Villas
The best part about staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge is being in the middle of all the animals. From Savannah rooms, guests are able to see animals out in the fields. There are even viewing stations that include night vision binoculars.
For dining, there are several options with the most well known being Jiko – The Cooking Place. This fine dining restaurant serves African-style food cooked in wood burning ovens. For an extra-special night, you can book a meal and a safari together!
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort
A more budget-friendly option, the Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, located in Disney Springs, has a cozy southern feel. Stroll the quaint streets of the French Quarter, or the more rustic Riverside area. Here you’ll find tree-lined passageways and horse-drawn carriages. If you enjoy jazz music, the Scat Cat’s Club is a great lounge to visit.
We love Disney honeymoons! For more information, call us at 402-390-9291 and ask to speak to our Omaha Disney Travel Agent, Andy Baker.

The highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open at the end of the summer. The rides will open in phases, but once completed it will be the largest land in all of the Disney World parks. In total it will take up 14 acres of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney actually moved up the opening date due to high interest from Star Wars and Disney fans. Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run is the first ride to open. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is set to open later this year. In addition to rides and interactive attractions, Galaxy’s Edge will also have Star Wars-themed restaurants and merchandise shops. In addition, you can expect to see all of your favorite Star Wars characters roaming around.
*Disneyland’s own Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on May 31.
Star Wars-inspired immersive resort
Opening date TBD
Disney is really leaning into the Star Wars craze (I mean, finally!). In addition to Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios, you will soon be able to immerse yourself even more fully in the Star Wars story. The new Star Wars-inspired immersive resort will be built near Hollywood Studios for easy access to Galaxy’s Edge. The overall concept is a bit confusing for non-Star Wars fans like myself, but the gist is that you’ll become a citizen of the galaxy when you stay here. This includes dressing up in proper Star Wars attire!

Disney Riviera Resort
Opening December 2019
Disney Riviera Resort is set to open in late 2019 and is already accepting reservations for December 2019 and beyond. The family-friendly resort will have approximately 300 vacation homes, including deluxe studios and one-and two-bedroom villas. In addition, the resort will offer “grand villas” which sleep up to 12 guests. The property will have direct access to the parks via the Disney Skyliner (more on this later). There will also be a rooftop restaurant called Topolino’s Terrace: Flavors of the Riviera (Topolino is the Italian name for Mickey Mouse!). From here you’ll be able to catch views of nighttime shows and fireworks at Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Character dining will be available here so you can chow down on French and Italian dishes with all your faves.
Walt Disney World Skyliner
Opening Fall 2019
Disney Skyliner is a new gondola system that will make getting around the parks even easier. It is under construction now and will connect several Disney resorts to Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot. Resorts that will connect via Skyliner include Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s new Riviera Resort.
New at Universal Orlando in 2019

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Universal’s Islands of Adventure
Opening June 13, 2019
This thrilling roller coaster ride will take you soaring through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You’ll fly through the Forbidden Forest and encounter all of your favorite characters and creatures from the much beloved series. This is not for the faint of heart, as your motorbike will be flying at up to 50 mph! You’ll want to take this adventure twice so you can experience the ride from both the enchanted motorbike and the sidecar.

Endless Summer Resort
Opening August 2019
Universal Orlando’s Endless Summer Resort will include Surfside Inn and Suites and Dockside Inn and Suites. This is Universal’s first ever foray into on-property value hotels. Guests at either of the new Suites will have access to the same perks as Universal’s existing hotels. As the name suggests, both hotels will have a beach and surf theme. Plus, more than half of the rooms will be family suites!

“IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” will come to an end on September 20th of this year after a 20-year run. Unfortunately, this means if you don’t find yourself in Epcot this year over the Fourth of July, you won’t be able to experience it next year. If you are at Disney this year, however, you’ll be wowed by the patriotic Fourth of July grand finale of this beloved nighttime performance.
“The Heartbeat of Freedom” is a fireworks show that will begin immediately after the IllumiNations finale, which starts at 9 PM EST.

3. More Patriotic Fun at Epcot
In addition to IllumiNations, the Heartbeat of Freedom, and the Voices of Liberty, guests can expect to find their fave Disney characters in their “Spirit of 76” patriotic attire at The American Adventure throughout the day on the Fourth of July.
Guests can also treat themsleves to themed treats and drinks in honor of the Fourth. You’ll find these throughout the park, including Independence Day-themed cupcakes and special dining packages. Don’t miss the red, white, and blue sangria and the Boom Berry Lemonade!
Fourth of July Celebrations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Now let’s check out what’s new and exciting at Disney World parks!

Disney’s Magic Kingdom Updates
Most of the new-ish updates and attractions at Magic Kingdom are in the entertainment category. These include the Festival of Fantasy Parade, which runs daily. In addition, Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire is a stage show that is now open to guests. “Muppets Present…Great Moments in American History” is another new show that is put on above Liberty Square. A new fireworks show, “Happily Ever After”, is a new favorite as well. However, one noteworthy removal is the nighttime parade.
New rides at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom include the TRON roller coaster in Tomorrowland. This will open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021. This will cause closures to the Walt Disney World Railroad and Tomorrowland Speedway for a small portion of 2019.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Updates
The biggest addition to Disney’s Hollywood Studios is Toy Story Land, which is now open. Hollywood Studios also has some great new entertainment for 2019. For example, The Incredibles now occupy the former Pixar Place. This experience includes new meet & greets and dance parties for the whole family. On the far side of the park, Lightning McQueen’s Race Academy is also now open.
There are a few projects still under construction, as well as a few delays on new attractions. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway are still in the works and causing a few minor closures throughout the area of the park. A portion of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be open to guests starting mid-August 2019. The second ride opening for Star Wars has been delayed.
Epcot Updates
If you haven’t visited Epcot in a few years, you should make time to visit the new-ish attractions which include Soarin’ Around the World and Frozen Ever After. Both are now a couple of years old. Wait times have decreased for both in the 2019, but they are still quite popular! Epcot Forever will debut on October 1, 2019 following the retirement of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. This will be officially closed at the end of Summer 2019.
In more exciting Epcot update news, several new movies will debut at Epcot in January 2020 as part of the 2020 Epcot International Festival of the Arts. This includes Awesome Planet in the Land pavilion, the new Seamless Circle-Vision 360 film for China, Beauty and the Beast Sing-a-long in France, and new Circle-Vision 360 film for the Canada Pavilion.
The ‘Space Restaurant’ is currently under construction next to Mission: Space in Future World and will open in Late 2019. In addition, Wonders of Life will soon be replaced by the new Play Pavillion just in time for Disney’s 50th Anniversary.
As for rides, the Guardians of the Galaxy hybrid roller coast will open to the public in Future World in 2021. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (a family-friendly trackless dark ride) will open in the World Showcase’s France pavilion in the Spring of 2020.
Animal Kingdom Updates
The newest land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is Pandora – World of Avatar. This is the biggest addition in the past decade out of all the Walt Disney World parks. This opened about a year ago and remains one of the most popular attractions at Disney World. In addition, the nighttime spectacular Rivers of Light, although now a couple of years old, just received an update: Rivers of Light: We are One for Summer 2019. This new version showcases scenes from Disneynature films and animated movies.
Two smaller new attractions at Animal Kingdom include ‘UP! A Great Bird Adventure’, featuring characters from Up, plus bird species from around the world. This replaced Flights of Wonder. In addition, Donald’s Dino Bash is a new dance party and meet & greet attraction in Dinoland.
In addition to the new attractions mentioned above, Animal Kingdom will be celebrating the Lion King’s 25th Anniversary throughout 2019 with “Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party” on Discovery Island. The attraction features Timon and Rafiki mainly.
Disney Springs Updates
Disney Springs is the entertainment and shopping district previously known as Downtown Disney. About 75% of this area is new or has been updated in the last 5 years. Additions to the re-imagining of the area include the Boathouse, Jock Lindsay’s Hangar Bar, Morimoto Asia, the Edision, and 4 Rivers Cantina just to name a few. 2019 openings still to come include the highly-anticipated NBA Experience.

Our Enchanted Travel experts love Disney, especially during Halloween season! Read on for everything new to Disney this year and in the near future.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
You don’t have to worry about frightening your children if you find yourself at Disney World or Disneyland this Halloween season. In lieu of haunted houses and chainsaw-wielding zombies, Disney focuses on parades, fireworks and festive shows to celebrate spooky season. In fact, Disney named it’s fall event “Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. While it lacks in gore and fright, it amps it up with fun and festivity. Guests are encouraged to enter the parks in costume. Whether or not you decide to dress in costume, all park guests can take part in trick-or-treating through Magic Kingdom. The park even provides bags for collecting candy from cast members.
Another can’t-miss October event is Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade. Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy dress in costume and it is perfect for all ages! However, the parade does kick off with the Headless Horseman galloping down the street, so it does have a bit of a fright factor.
Pirates of the Caribbean also gets a Halloween makeover this year. A new character, Gunpowder Pete, is a live actor that pops in and out of the animatronic characters.
Finally, “Happy HalloWishes” is another Halloween event you can’t miss. The show features animated villains from Disney movies and books, and finishes with a fireworks display.
Disney Will Soon Have Vegan Menu Items at all Restaurants in its US Parks
Last month, Disney announced that both Disney World and Disneyland will be rolling out vegan food options to cater to their plant-based guests. This won’t be just a few options, either. Vegans will have items to choose from at every single dining location at both theme parks! According to CNN, there will be more than 400 new dishes for vegans to enjoy throughout the parks. The vegan options will launch at Disney World in October and at Disneyland in Spring of 2020. Upcoming dishes include Steamed Asian Dumplings at Epcot’s Le Cellier restaurant, Shiriki Noodle Salad at Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen, and a Felucian Garden Spread available at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo restaurant.
Disney Skyliner now open at Disney World
Disney’s new aerial tram service is now open! The Skyliner, made up of 300 colorful gondolas, transport guests between resorts, Hollywood Studios and Epcot Center. There is no charge for riding the Skyliner, just like other Disney transportation options. All guests are allowed to ride whether they are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel or not.

Starting October 21, Oga’s Cantina, Savi’s Workshop and Droid Depot will begin offering reservations up to 60 days in advance. Be sure to check out the Disneyland Resort Website or the Disneyland app to make your reservations today!

Disney’s New Year’s Eve celebrations are nothing short of magical. Although it is historically one of the busiest times at Walt Disney World, it is well worth it. No matter which park you ring in 2020 at, you’re sure to have an amazing experience.
Disney’s New Year’s Eve Celebrations

New Year’s Eve at Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom is Disney’s most popular park and will be the most crowded one on New Year’s Eve. Your best bet is to arrive early in the day and stake out your viewing spot for parades and shows that night.
Magic Kingdom’s Fantasy in the Sky fireworks show takes place above Cinderella Castle and is truly breathtaking. This show will also take place on December 30th if you can’t make it on New Year’s Eve night. The show starts both nights at 11:50 PM. They also have a mini version of the show at 6:30 PM both nights if your little ones can’t make it to midnight. In addition, you can live stream the show from your home by following this link.
Another family-fun way to celebrate Disney’s New Year’s Eve is at Frontierland and Tomorrowland. They are both holding kid-friendly dance parties on December 30th and 31st from 7 PM to midnight.

New Year’s Eve at Epcot
Epcot’s New Year’s Eve parties take place throughout the entire park. DJs will be playing in many areas, so expect lots of dancing! Walk from Mexico to Canada in the World Showcase, then when it hits midnight, marvel at each country’s festive announcement and fireworks.
New Year’s Countdown Fireworks show is projected onto Spaceship Earth for a unique New Year’s Eve experience. This year, Epcot Forever – the new nighttime show – will play twice. Immediately following the two shows will be the special New Year’s Eve display. The showings are scheduled for 6:30 PM and 11:40 PM.

New Year’s Eve at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Disney’s Animal Kingdom stays open until midnight this year, so you can ring in 2020 here as well. They will be serving special New Year’s Eve-themed food and drinks, and DJs will be playing in Asia, Discovery Island and DinoLand U.S.A. Gather around the Tree of Life as midnight approaches for a special countdown.

New Year’s Eve at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The Wonderful World of Animation show will play at Hollywood Studios at 6:05 PM and 11:35 PM, and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular will have a midnight showing. This is a great place to ring in 2020 with a more low-key atmosphere and less crowds.

The coolest new attractions coming to Disney Parks in 2020
We could write an entire post just highlighting the new attractions coming to Disney this year, but this article sums it up really well with lots of great details and insider information. You can expect a ton of new rides, eats, events and more at both Disneyland and Disney World. One of the most anticipated additions to Disney Parks is the second ride within Galaxy’s Edge: Rise of the Resistance, which just opened at Disneyland last Friday (1/17).
Some of the most exciting new attractions coming later this year include the Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure. This will be an addition to the current Guardians of the Galaxy ride (formerly the Tower of Terror), with a fully-interactive Marvel-themed section of the park. No opening date has been released yet, so TBD on whether we will actually see this before 2021.
Another exciting attraction, opening March 4 in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad. Crazy fact – this is the first ride in all of Disney parks to feature Mickey Mouse and friends!

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opens at Disneyland Park
The first Star Wars park opened last May at Disneyland, and later in the summer at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. When Disneyland opened the park – dubbed Galaxy’s Edge – in May, it was only partially finished. Now that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened on January 17, the immersive land is complete. The new attraction, dubbed Rise of the Resistance, is an innovative and unique 18-minute trip with several different ride systems. Learn more about this exciting experience at the link below.
