One of the most popular destinations for a beach getaway, Mexico boasts a vast selection of interactive tours and excursions. Having a general idea of the tour you’re most interested in beforehand is always a good idea to save time and make the most of your vacation. If you’re looking for some off-the-beaten-path adventures, below we’ve highlighted a list of Lomas Travel tours that are as unique as they are adventurous.

1.  Swim with Whale Sharks

Between June and September, this exciting excursion allows you to swim in the company of whale sharks in their natural habitat. No need to worry if it sounds a little too dangerous for your liking. The diets of these gentle creatures consist of plankton and small fish! This tour includes your transportation, bilingual guides, continental breakfast, lunch, snorkeling gear, non-alcoholic drinks, insurance, and taxes.

2.  See Mayan Ruins

Learn the history of one of Mexico’s oldest archeological sites located in the ancient Mayan city of Tulum. Stand in awe of these remarkable structures right along the Caribbean shoreline and then enjoy some time relaxing on the beach nearby. This tour takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, including round-trip transportation, a bottle of water, bilingual guides, and sun lounges.

3. Shop 5th Avenue of Playa Del Carmen

The cobblestone streets and artisan shops of Plaza Playacar await you on this guided shopping trip to Playa Del Carmen’s famous 5th Avenue. Including a bilingual guide and roundtrip transportation, you’ll have a full three hours to experience the authentic Mexican culture that continues to be a highlight for many tourists.

4. Take a Day Trip to Cozumel

Just a short ferry ride from Playa Del Carmen, the beautiful island of Cozumel is famous for incredible snorkeling and scuba diving. Looking for something in between? Try snuba, an activity that combines components of both. Snuba allows you to explore much deeper depths than snorkeling due to the air tank that floats on the surface. We can’t think of a better way to see vibrant sea life without having to worry about PADI certifications!

5. Snorkel Cenotes

Otherwise known as natural sinkholes, cenotes offer a snorkeling experience that is unlike anything you’ll find in the open blue. Cenotes are full of cool, crystal clear water, housing very unique ecosystems (including the always-beautiful stalagmites and stalactites). Note: biodegradable sunscreen and bug spray is mandatory for preserving the cenote’s composition.

6. Zip Line Through the Jungle

Explore the Mayan Jungle and its lush vegetation by zip lining high above the trees! For this thrilling tour, you’ll want to wear light clothing and more importantly, bug spray. First timers are more than welcome as everyone will be prefaced with the zip lining basics and equipment involved prior to any activity.

7. Tequila Tasting Tour

In our opinion, there’s truly no better place to sample an assortment of tequilas than Mexico. The tour begins with listening to the evolution of Mexican culture in the Discover Mexico Park and finishes with a tequila tasting. Did we mention that the tasting also includes tacos?

8. Witness Sea Turtle Nesting

If you’re anywhere near the Cancun area between May and September (which happens to be Sea Turtle nesting season),  you can witness a miracle right on the beach! This tour begins at 10:00 p.m., as female turtles crawl out of the ocean to nest during the night. Don’t expect to capture the experience on camera, though. Flash photography will scare the turtle right back into the ocean before she even begins to lay her eggs.

9. Experience Coco Bongo

Famously known for its imitations and reproductions of world-known artists, this Coco Bongo tour provides a lively atmosphere for an unforgettable experience. With a duration of 7 hours total, booking this event includes free entry, unlimited bar, and transportation. Count us in!

10. Dune Buggy to Punta Sur

Take in the rugged landscape of Cozumel by dune buggy on this 4-hour tour. Following the coastal highway, you’ll pass crocodiles, lagoons, and even have the opportunity to view the scenery from a lighthouse. Up for some off-roading? Take advantage of the mud terrain area near the end of the route. And don’t forget, a valid driver’s license is mandatory!

As the average cost of a traditional wedding ceremony and reception skyrockets, more and more couples are opting for a personalized and surprisingly affordable destination wedding rather than an overpriced, run-of-the mill wedding. If you and your future spouse like the idea of a relaxing destination wedding but don’t know where or how to start, we can help!

Below are the best tips for making your dream destination wedding a reality.

new jewel

1. Hire a pro

Enchanted Travel can help you in picking out the perfect destination for your upcoming nuptials.  Travel specialists plan excursions for groups of two to 2,000, and ensure that guests of all ages are comfortable and well-accommodated. They handle all of your guests’ travel needs so you are freed from the role of travel-agent-bride-or-groom. Instead you can focus on wedding details and your only role is husband or wife.

Our agents are destination wedding specialists. We have been planning destination weddings for over twenty years! Our agents have visited all of the best resorts and locations for destination weddings in Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Jamaica.

Travel specialists have access to thousands of dollars in group discounts. We will present the options to you upfront to help you anticipate the full cost of your destination wedding with no surprises.

At Enchanted Honeymoons, we also provide free wedding invitations for your big day. You are able to add your picture and design the invitation to your liking. We also provide a wedding registry so your friends and family members can contribute to your big day or your honeymoon. Finally, we provide these and all of our services free of charge!

We are always in your corner, and are reachable by phone, text and e-mail while you and your group are traveling – yes, we are available 24/7 for your entire group from the time they book to the time they arrive back home.

2. Notify guests well in advance

This is one of the most important destination wedding tips. Not only will you want to give your loved ones ample time to check their schedule for your destination wedding date, but you will also want to make sure they have plenty of time to calculate whether or not they can accord the cost of traveling to your ceremony and reception. Working with Enchanted Honeymoons Travel ensures that you and your guests are prepared and have everything you need for the trip.

3. Visit in advance if possible

Ideally, you’d be able to visit your venue once before booking, but this is not always the case for destination weddings. Ask your travel agent at Enchanted Travel about discounts offered by certain hotels on stays before your wedding date. If your hotel doesn’t offer a discount and you are not able to visit your venue, just be sure to arrive a few days in advance of the ceremony and reception. This will allow you to change anything and will relieve some stress for your big day!

4. Pick the Perfect Spot

The location of your wedding determines not only the mood – whether you are going for sophisticated, beachy, or rustic – but also the travel, time and budget required to pull it off. Your wedding elements should say something about your personal style and your passions. Enchanted Honeymoons can help you choose the perfect setting for you – whether it’s a beach in Maui, a gazebo over the Caribbean, a private garden in St. Lucia, or a beautiful chapel in Jamaica.

5. Embrace the setting to save big

Slash both your decor and catering costs by choosing items that are native to your destination. Our agents at Enchanted Honeymoons Travel have been to all of the top destinations so we are able to relay first-hand what may work for your big day. For instance, consider having exotic flowers and plants in the tropics rather than, say, red roses. Serve local specialties at the reception, like jerk chicken in Jamaica or conch fritters in the Bahamas.

6. Choose your wedding dress based on your destination

Breathable fabrics work best in hot, humid locations such as the beach. Think lightweight lace in Mexico. On the other hand, some destinations were made for something more dramatic. For nuptials set in a villa in France, for instance, an embellished ball gown may be appropriate!

7. Never check your dress

Always carry your dress on board the plane, even if it means having to fold it. Just make sure someone at the other end can press and steam it!

8. Time it Right

Unfortunately, the best weather in popular destinations tends to be high  or heavy-tourist season, when there are typically more crowds, fewer hotels and venues available, and higher prices all around. If you choose to marry during high season, you’ll want to reserve hotel blocks and venues immediately and send out save-the-dates 10 to 12 months in advance so guests can book their flights and accommodations before prices skyrocket. Our agents at Enchanted Honeymoons Travel are all destination wedding specialists, so we will can help you choose the best time for your big day. If you choose the shoulder-season (right after high-season), you may be able to save yourself and your guests some money and still enjoy great weather. While the off-season will mean fewer crowds, the weather can be iffy, and you may find that many stores, venues and vendors close up shop.

9. Research Local Marriage Requirements

The legal side of tying the knot in a different country can be complicated. Many countries have a “residency requirement” (for example, 24 hours in Turks and Caicos and 7 days in England), which means you must reside in the country for a certain length of time before your ceremony. Although this is usually just a few days, it can be longer. France requires you to arrive at least 40 days before you marry! When in doubt, ask your travel agent!

Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Mexico this year? You’re in luck! Whether you’re in Playa del Carmen, Cabo San Lucas, or Puerto Vallarta, we’ve got some of the best parties to ring in the new year on this list. Check them all out below!

Playa del Carmen

New Year's Eve in Mexico 1

Coco Bongo

Coco Bong Club is one of the very best places to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Mexico. You’ve probably seen ads for this club everywhere, and it is an especially popular place to ring in the new year. While many categorize it as a dance club, it is actually more of an experience. There is a show from 11 PM that lasts until 3:15 am, and they put on one of the biggest parties in Playa del Carmen for New Year’s Eve.

El Tigre Bar off 5th Ave

For an authentic New Year’s Eve in Mexico experience, read on: 5th Avenue is where most of the people in Playa del Carmen will be headed to ring in the new year. We suggest making at least a stop at El Tigre Bar on 10th Avenue between 2nd Street and 4th Street. The new, upscale Mexican style cantina bar is located inside the Fives Downtown Hotel. Here you can toast to 2019 with mezcal and tequila in an authentically Mexican environment.

Xoximilco

Xoximilco is a truly unique Mexican attraction. I experienced this first hand a couple of years ago, and I can only imagine how wild the New Year’s Eve celebration gets! Jump on board a colorful gondola for a trip around the river, complete with Mexican food, tequila, and traditional Mexican live music including Mariachi bands and Marimba performers.

Cabo San Lucas

New Year's Eve in Mexico 1

The Office on Médano Beach

The Office on the Beach is one of the best beach bars on Médano Beach in Cabo San Lucas. It’s a great place to enjoy a delicious seafood feast right in the sand, overlooking the gorgeous Sea of Cortez. In fact, the Office was the first palapa built on what is now Médano. On New Year’s Eve, Médano Beach puts on the best fireworks show in all of Los Cabos, and at the office you’ll have a front row seat. Plus, they will have a special dinner menu for this night.

Cabo Wabo Cantina

The legendary Cabo Wabo Cantina is where all of the celebrities go when they are in Cabo San Lucas. Enjoy music by the house band “Santo Rojo” plus dinner, access to the club area, and more when you purchase a ticket. You can get one for $100/person here, or ask your Enchanted Travel expert to include these in your package.

Puerto Vallarta

Olas Atlas

No matter what you do on New Year’s Eve in Puerto Vallarta, you should start your evening on Olas Atlas. Located in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone, Olas Atlas is a neighborhood street. On New Year’s Eve, the street closes around 9 PM and hosts a massive traditional street party. This truly unique and authentic Mexican experience is something that you will never forget. Make a stop or spend your whole evening in Garbo Piano Bar, or any of the other lively bars in the Romantic Zone Olas Atlas.

The Malecón

Though it may get a bit crowded on New Year’s Eve night, the Malecón is one of the best places to ring in 2019. If you are coming from Olas Atlas, you’ll pass a popular bridge as you make your way to the Malecón. This is a great place to get an Instagram-worthy photo for your feed! Coming off the bridge and entering the general area of the Malecón, you’ll start seeing more people, tons of food carts selling everything from tamales to crepes to hot dogs, and more. Just a ways further from the Malecón you’ll find Los Arcos, or more formally, Los Arcos de Malecón. There is always something happening in the Los Arcos Theater and the town square at Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the street festival for New Year’s Eve will be in full force here!

6. Sanctuary Cap Cana

Sanctuary Cap Cana will celebrate its grand re-opening in January of 2019, after undergoing a $35 million modernization. Many of these new resorts are family-friendly, but this one checks the box for adults-only luxury. The property will introduce two new towers in 2019, which will accommodate 140 additional suites. In addition, guests will love the newly-renovated lobby, restaurants, and world-class spa.

7. White Sands Hotel, Waikiki

Honolulu’s White Sands Hotel is currently under renovation to restore it to its original 1960’s glory. This funky, fun property gives a major nod to the old-fashioned Hawaii loved by many. Some of the main areas include the lush garden and pool courtyard, complete with a bar-adjacent hot tub. In addition, on-property restaurants will also take fun in the throwback vibes, with elevated 1960’s food items.

Fiesta Americana Cozumel is a family-friendly all-inclusive on Cozumel. It is the smallest all-inclusive on the entire island. It is set in a high rise building and the beach is located across the main street. Half of the rooms in the high rise are suites, and there are 3 restaurants on the property and 2 restaurants on the beach area. You do not need reservations for the restaurants, which is ideal. At the beach, you must take a ladder down into the water rather than wade in like a typical beach, but it is beautiful nonetheless. Be sure to order the amazing fish tacos at the beach restaurant!

La Colección - Explorean

The Explorean Fiesta Americana Cozumel

The Explorean by La Colección is a very unique property. Get ready to unplug when you check in here, as there are no televisions and limited WiFi. The family-friendly resort has a rainforest feeling, with views of the trees rather than the ocean (which you can’t see at all from the property). You do however have exchange privileges with Fiesta Americana Cozumel, but not vice-versa so it is very private. One great thing about this property is that your stay includes an off-property excursion of your choice. In addition to access to all of the restaurants at Fiesta Americana Cozumel, they are building 1 exclusive restaurant on the Explorean property that will be ready early this year. One unique thing to note is that every morning at 7 AM you’ll get a delivery of coffee, bread, and fruit outside your door.

La Colección - Live Aqua

Live Aqua Boutique Playa del Carmen

Our agents loved this property and highly recommend it for anyone that does not mind being off the beach. The adults-only property is luxurious, with an infinity rooftop pool and sushi restaurant. It is located directly on 5th Avenue so it is a great spot for going out. The beach is 1 block away, with 2 beach clubs close by. Mamitas Beach Club charges $8 for the day and this $8 goes towards a credit for drinks or food. Kool Beach Club is $20 per day, and also turns into a beach credit. There is also a restaurant being built next door that will be open later in 2019. Our agents liked the Master Suite and the 5th Ave Suite, which has two showers and a Jacuzzi.

La Colección - live aqua

Live Aqua Cancun

This adults-only property is perfect for spa-lovers looking for relaxation. Like all La Colección resorts, this one brings something super unique in the little details. Here it is the spa scents throughout the entire property – every floor has a different aroma and guests choose which aroma they want for their room. In addition, guests get a hand massage at check-in and those booked in a higher room category get a private cabana and each cabana comes with a foot massage.

There are 7 different swimming pools and each one has different temperatures, so as you can see the theme here is really embracing all of your senses. One of the pools is more of a party atmosphere with music and a swimup bar, and there is also a bar open late with music every night from DJs, live bands, and even silent discos. There is a new restaurant that offers 8 or 12 course menus for an extra cost, and there is also a charming hidden garden restaurant.

La Colección - fiesta am condesa

Fiesta American Condesa Cancun

This family-friendly all-inclusive property is located on a gorgeous strip of Cancun beach. There are 10 restaurants, including a great taco and ceviche restaurant on the beach. In addition, there is a sushi bar open until 1 AM and a steakhouse, which does require reservations. They also have live entertainment every night until 1 AM.

La Colección - grand fiesta

Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach

This family-friendly resort is mainly an EP (“European Plan”) property, meaning certain meals are included but not all. They do offer all-inclusive, which they dubbed the “Unlimited Experience” but it is a bit pricey. All rooms here are ocean view suites. This is a good option for families with young kids because they have a Caribbean suite that connects with a junior suite. In addition, there is an onsite Kids Club. The property has a direct view of Isla Mujeres and is located next to the ferry to Isla. There are 4 bars and 5 restaurants, including a Five Diamond gourmet restaurant on property.

summer - hard rock cun

Hard Rock Hotel Cancun

Our travel expert Bridget describes Hard Rock Hotel Cancun as “upbeat, fun, and music-oriented, with great food and activities.” Her favorite part of this resort was the upbeat atmosphere, the deluxe diamond room, and the food and entertainment options on property. The Deluxe Diamond Room is one of the best rooms on the property, so it would be a great option for honeymooners or someone celebrating a special occasion.

summer

UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya

UNICO 20°87° Hotel is a part of the Hard Rock brand, and has the exceptional service that you can expect from these properties. Bridget describes this resort as being perfect for clients who are looking for a 5-star resort for relaxation. One thing that really makes this property stand out is the interior design throughout. This is just one way that the resort incorporates the natural elements and culture of Mexico into the property. In addition to a fabulous beach and pools, UNICO 20°87° offers fun activities like mixology classes and sushi-making classes. This is a great option for anyone looking for something a bit more refined and boutique-style, but with all-inclusive amenities. I actually spent my honeymoon here and it was amazing.

Cancun

Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya

Bridget describes Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya as being perfect for families. It is ideal for families with small children because it has a man made beach that is safe for wading and swimming.

mexico - secrets mujeres

Secrets Playa Mujeres

Secrets Playa Mujeres is a gorgeous property with an excellent beach and fantastic pools. It is quite expansive, however, so it’s not ideal for elderly people as some of the rooms are located far from the restaurants. One thing Bridget loved about this property was that all of the restaurants are located off of the board walk over the water.

Mexico

Secrets Maroma

Secrets Maroma is located on one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Mexico: Maroma Beach. The beach is world famous and you may even choose to stay on this property just for a chance to have access to this beach for a week! There is tons to do on this property and great food.

Mexico - el dorado maroma

El Dorado Maroma

El Dorado Maroma is, as it’s name suggests, also located on the stunning Maroma Beach. The El Dorado brand is known for gourmet food and impeccable service. You really cannot go wrong with an El Dorado Maroma resort.

mexico - palafitos

El Dorado Maroma Palafitos – Overwater Bungalows

El Dorado Maroma is home to the first overwater bungalows, or “palafitos”, in Mexico. Now you don’t have to travel to Tahiti to stay in one of these unique rooms! The palafitos have a luxurious yet homey feel with a glass bottom floor. Bridget loved the modern touches in the rooms, like a ring doorbell and aromatherapy showers. Guests who stay here will love that they can jump right into the shallow water near their palafito for snorkeling or swimming.

mexico - el dorado

El Dorado Seaside Suites

Our agents were most excited to see the new Infinity section at El Dorado Seaside Suites. In this section, you’ll find swim outs on every floor. They were not disappointed and would highly recommend these to their clients.

mexico - moon pal

Moon Palace

Moon Palace is a very large property which is great if you are traveling in a group or a multi-generational family. There is something for everyone here, including a huge water park and arcade for kids, mini golf, a huge spa, golf course, and several pools. This property also has a new section, the Grand at Moon Palace, which is super luxurious and great for anyone looking for something a bit extra. The food here is excellent and as you can imagine from its size, there are tons of options when it comes to dining.

mexico - hilton pdc

Hilton Playa del Carmen

The Hilton Playa del Carmen is unique in that it is located just steps away from 5th avenue. 5th Avenue is home to tons of shopping, dining, bars, and nightlife. This would be a great place to stay for a bachelor or bachelorette party.  It is important to note that there is no private beach on this property – it is located on a public beach.

mexico - azul

Azul Riviera Maya

Azul Riviera Maya is a great resort for families with younger children or pre-teens. However, for families with teens or groups of adults, our agents would suggest one of the other great options which caters to all ages. It does have  a beautiful beach and great food, however.

Mexico - Valentin

Valentin Imperial Maya

The Valentin Imperial Maya is a very large property with a classic Mexico resort vibe. It is laid out quite expansively, so not ideal for elderly. However, it is a great place for groups and relatively affordable for how beautiful it is. The grounds of the property are gorgeous, with tons of trees and flowers everywhere. Everything is perfectly manicured and clean. The beach is gorgeous as well and there are several pools.

McKayla’s Royalton Riviera Cancun Destination Wedding

McKayla’s destination wedding was at the Royalton Riviera Cancun on May 3rd, 2018. They chose the Royalton for the beautiful, modern chapel on property, where they held their ceremony. They wanted something different than the usual beach wedding but also wanted to keep their big day as traditional as you can get with a destination wedding. The chapel ceremony provides exactly what they were looking for and the photos speak for themselves!

Destination wedding McKayla Royalton 3

30 of McKayla and Logan’s closest friends and family joined them in Cancun for their destination wedding. They chose to say their vows in a sunset ceremony that began at 5 PM, which provided the perfect backdrop for photos and videos. McKayla suggests that for those wanting a sunset ceremony like hers, couples should consider having a first look before it starts. They didn’t have much time in between the ceremony and reception to get all the pictures they wanted, and all of the reception photos were in the dark. McKayla really prioritized her photos and video for the wedding, so if you also consider these aspects of your wedding to be super important, take her advice!

Destination wedding McKayla Royalton 2

“Everything turned out as perfect as we could have imagined,” McKayla says about her big day. “The weddings department at Royalton was extremely easy to work with and they had packages for any budget.” McKayla customized her wedding and cut costs by using fake flowers and going simple on decorations. The decorations she did have she brought with her from home and this let the beautiful setting be the main focus when it comes to decor.

destination wedding - Marissa 2

Marissa’s Moon Palace Cancun Destination Wedding

Marissa’s destination wedding was at Moon Palace Cancun Resort in 2010. She chose Moon Palace because of the size of the property and the variety of activities for their 26 guests. This resort is also close to the airport, so it is convenient to get to. Marissa’s favorite part was that instead of celebrating for 1 day, she celebrated for a week! “I loved everything about the resort, our wedding, and the overall experience. We were the first ones to arrive to the resort and the last ones to leave,” she said.

Moon Palace provided a great setting for her destination wedding. Her group tended to gravitate towards one of the pools and would meet at the lobby bar each evening. The night before their wedding, they had dinner with their whole group at the Italian restaurant on property. After dinner, they headed to the onsite nightclub for a night of dancing.

Her and her bridal party spent the morning at the salon getting ready for the special day. Her ceremony was at 2:00 PM, and afterwards they had pictures and cocktails on the beach. They had dinner at the steakhouse on the resort, Barracuda. The celebrations did not end there, though! The next night they hosted another dinner together and danced all night at the nightclub. “We were treated like royalty all week and the staff at Moon Palace was amazing,” she said.
