Where to Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Mexico
Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Mexico this year? You’re in luck! Whether you’re in Playa del Carmen, Cabo San Lucas, or Puerto Vallarta, we’ve got some of the best parties to ring in the new year on this list. Check them all out below!
Playa del Carmen

Coco Bongo
Coco Bong Club is one of the very best places to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Mexico. You’ve probably seen ads for this club everywhere, and it is an especially popular place to ring in the new year. While many categorize it as a dance club, it is actually more of an experience. There is a show from 11 PM that lasts until 3:15 am, and they put on one of the biggest parties in Playa del Carmen for New Year’s Eve.
El Tigre Bar off 5th Ave
For an authentic New Year’s Eve in Mexico experience, read on: 5th Avenue is where most of the people in Playa del Carmen will be headed to ring in the new year. We suggest making at least a stop at El Tigre Bar on 10th Avenue between 2nd Street and 4th Street. The new, upscale Mexican style cantina bar is located inside the Fives Downtown Hotel. Here you can toast to 2019 with mezcal and tequila in an authentically Mexican environment.
Xoximilco
Xoximilco is a truly unique Mexican attraction. I experienced this first hand a couple of years ago, and I can only imagine how wild the New Year’s Eve celebration gets! Jump on board a colorful gondola for a trip around the river, complete with Mexican food, tequila, and traditional Mexican live music including Mariachi bands and Marimba performers.
Cabo San Lucas

The Office on Médano Beach
The Office on the Beach is one of the best beach bars on Médano Beach in Cabo San Lucas. It’s a great place to enjoy a delicious seafood feast right in the sand, overlooking the gorgeous Sea of Cortez. In fact, the Office was the first palapa built on what is now Médano. On New Year’s Eve, Médano Beach puts on the best fireworks show in all of Los Cabos, and at the office you’ll have a front row seat. Plus, they will have a special dinner menu for this night.
Cabo Wabo Cantina
The legendary Cabo Wabo Cantina is where all of the celebrities go when they are in Cabo San Lucas. Enjoy music by the house band “Santo Rojo” plus dinner, access to the club area, and more when you purchase a ticket. You can get one for $100/person here, or ask your Enchanted Travel expert to include these in your package.
Puerto Vallarta
Olas Atlas
No matter what you do on New Year’s Eve in Puerto Vallarta, you should start your evening on Olas Atlas. Located in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone, Olas Atlas is a neighborhood street. On New Year’s Eve, the street closes around 9 PM and hosts a massive traditional street party. This truly unique and authentic Mexican experience is something that you will never forget. Make a stop or spend your whole evening in Garbo Piano Bar, or any of the other lively bars in the Romantic Zone Olas Atlas.
The Malecón
Though it may get a bit crowded on New Year’s Eve night, the Malecón is one of the best places to ring in 2019. If you are coming from Olas Atlas, you’ll pass a popular bridge as you make your way to the Malecón. This is a great place to get an Instagram-worthy photo for your feed! Coming off the bridge and entering the general area of the Malecón, you’ll start seeing more people, tons of food carts selling everything from tamales to crepes to hot dogs, and more. Just a ways further from the Malecón you’ll find Los Arcos, or more formally, Los Arcos de Malecón. There is always something happening in the Los Arcos Theater and the town square at Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the street festival for New Year’s Eve will be in full force here!

2019 is right around the corner. Get ready for the crazy celebrations with this list of New Year’s Eve traditions from 7 countries around the globe.

The United States – New York City
This list of epic New Year celebrations wouldn’t be complete without a nod to the ball drop in Times Square, among other fabulous ways to “ring in” in NYC. Traveling to New York City over NYE may be very pricey, but it’s worth it. Whether you like to ring in the new year with a big party, a fancy dinner, or just a change of scenery – New York has something for everyone to welcome 2019. Besides watching the ball drop, there are concerts and shows at the Lincoln Center and in music halls in the Lower East Side. Alternately, you can book a New Year’s Eve cruise for an unbeatable view of the fireworks over the city.

The Bahamas
If you’re visiting Nassau this winter, be sure to book if over Junkanoo, a Bahamian festival that takes place on both Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. The party starts at 2 in the morning on the first day of the year. The series of vibrant parades carry on until 10 AM, and are an important part of the islands’ holiday traditions each year. It is said to have originated in the late 18th century, when Bahamian slaves were allowed to leave their plantations to celebrate Christmas as a community.

Scotland
The Bahamas may celebrate for two straight days, but Scotland’s New Year’s Eve celebration lasts three days! You’ll find most of the party in the capital city of Edinburgh, but you’ll also find some spectacular celebrations throughout the entire country. The three-day affair, dubbed Hogmanay, starts on December 30th each year, when revelers create a “river of fire” by carrying torches through Old Town, from Parliament Square to Calton Hill. Pipers and drums accompany the fire holders, for a celebration you won’t soon forget. If that isn’t quite crazy enough for you, opt to take part in the Loony Dook. For this, you’ll don a costume and plunge into the firth of Forth rivers.

Paris
Parisians celebrate the New Year much like New Yorkers, with glittering parties, shows, and plenty of restaurants and clubs to choose from. You may want to start your night off on the Champ de Mars, the first floor restaurant of the Eiffel Tower. The eatery acts as a gathering point for people ringing in the new year. You can also catch a light show on the Champs-Élysées near the Arc de Triomphe, or take part in a street party on Sacré-Coeur. While you won’t find an official fireworks display up on the hill here, you will be able to see all of the fireworks throughout the city. In addition, the neighborhood of Montmartre is full of cabarets, bars, and clubs to head after midnight.

Estonia
Estonia is the perfect place for foodies to to ring in the new year. Be sure to save room in your belly for this one: Estonians believe in eating a lucky number of meals on New Year’s Eve. What a fabulous excuse for gluttony! More particularly, the numbers seven, nine, and 12 are considered lucky, so you are supposed to eat at least seven meals on this day (and if you eat eight, you might as well eat nine for the luck, and so on…). As the tradition goes, Estonians believe that eating seven, nine, or 12 meals on this day will give you the strength of that many men in the new year.

Canada
Canada is one of the best places to celebrate the new year, with celebrations spanning both coasts. One great option is heading to Niagara Falls for New Year’s Eve. Here you’ll find a free party in Queen Victoria Park, with a spectacular fireworks show over the gorge. In Vancouver, ring in 2019 at Canada’s largest New Year;s Eve party in Coal Harbor. Here you’ll find fireworks, concerts, food trucks, and endless entertainment. No matter what area of Canada you find yourself in for NYE, you’re sure to find a great party and fireworks show.

Spain
In Spain you’ll find a rather quirky tradition. Here, Spaniards celebrate the new year by eating 12 grapes, one for each stroke of midnight. If done successfully, you’ll have a year of good luck. To take part as a group, head to the Puerta del Sol in Madrid for Nochevieja, aka New Year’s Eve. With 12 grapes in one hand and a glass of cava in the other, toast to 2019 in a totally unique way. After the grapes, the real party starts and lasts into the wee hours of the morning.
