Four Nights in Scotland
Kem and Lori traveled to Amsterdam, Scotland, and Ireland earlier this month. Scotland was the second stop on their trip and they packed a ton of activities into five days and four nights! To read more about their time in Amsterdam, read our recent blog post here: Amsterdam in October.
Stop #2: Four Nights in Scotland

City Tour & Royal Yacht Britannia
Kem and Lori arrived in Edinburgh, Scotland on October 2nd and began their stay with a city tour of Scotland and a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia. This Royal Yacht served the Royal Family for over 44 years and is one of the most famous ships in the world. Today, the ship serves as a five-star visitor attraction and event venue.

Edinburgh Castle
Kem and Lori also took a visit to Edinburgh Castle. This castle has a long, rich history as a royal residence, military garrison, prison, and fortress.

The Royal Mile – Old Town Edinburgh
Before ending a busy day of sightseeing, Kem and Lori ventured to the Royal Mile in Old Town Edinburgh. This busy street is full of things to see and do and it also connects two royal residences – the Castle and the Palace of Holyrood House. This is a great place to take in the culture and history of Scotland. It is home to parliaments, law courts, churches, and cathedrals, plus tons of local shops, restaurants, cafes, and pubs.

That night, Kem and Lori stayed at the Apex Haymarket Hotel in central Edinburgh.

Stirling Castle & Blair Castle
The next day, Kem and Lori ventured to Stirling Castle in Fife. Stirling Castle is known for its beautiful sculptures and gardens. It was the residence of the Stewart kings and queens and the venue for many grand royal celebrations.

Kem and Lori also toured Blair Castle, a very beautiful white castle that looks as if it is straight from a fairytale.

St. Andrews Old Course – The Oldest Golf Course in the World
Next up in Fife, Kem and Lori visited St. Andrews Old Course, the oldest golf course in the world – and one of the most iconic. St. Andrews Old Course is home to the famous Open Championship hosted annually. There are many famed structures on the property, including the Swilcan Bridge and Hell Bunker, but the greatest feature is that it remains a public golf course, open to all.

Battlefield of Culloden
After staying the night in Dundee, the group took the main road to Iverness to take in the Battlefield of Culloden. This is the site of the last and most harrowing pitched battle fought on British soil. Here you will find an interactive visitor center, fascinating artifacts, and an immersive surround cinema where you can experience the battle for yourself.

Loch Ness
After spending the night in Iverness, they headed to Loch Ness. You may have heard of the Loch Ness Monster, lovingly referred to as “Nessie” by locals. Tales of this large monster living deep beneath the dark expanses of Loch Ness have circulated the globe since the first photograph emerged in 1933.

Kem and Lori stayed their final night in Glasgow, Scotland, and got ready to embark on their next journey.
Next, and last stop: eight full nights in Ireland.
Stay tuned for an in-depth post on this last leg of their trip, coming later this week.
