This list may include stopping the paper (or having someone else pick it up for you)\u00a0 and calling the bank to give them your travel dates and where you are headed. This way your credit card doesn\u2019t get suspended while you\u2019re traveling. Don’t forget to make sure you have someone to care for your plants and pets!<\/p>\n

2. Make a packing list<\/h3>\n

Don\u2019t wait until the last minute to throw things in your suitcase, especially if you are going to be traveling for a week or more. If you are going somewhere chilly, keep in mind that packing your winter wear (such as boots and coats), these items will take up more room than you may expect.<\/p>\n

3. Avoid Overpacking<\/h3>\n

This is especially important if you are traveling with little ones. It may take extra time to get them through security, to the bathroom before take-off, and for last minute needs and snacks. Keep in mind that many airports now have free Wi-Fi, so if you are worried about keeping your kids busy, have a plan for something for them to watch so you do not get more stressed.<\/p>\n

6. Dress comfortably and in layers to adjust to cabin temperatures<\/h3>\n

We never get on a flight without a pair of socks and a lightweight but warm jacket. For longer flights, consider bringing a travel pillow and blanket.<\/p>\n

7. Wear slip-on shoes to make getting through security easy<\/h3>\n

For international flights, you may need to remove your shoes more than once (another good reason to bring socks). It is much more comfortable to be standing in a public line with socks on rather than your bare feet.<\/p>\n

8. Be sure to have luggage tags on the outside\u00a0and inside\u00a0<\/em>of your bags<\/h3>\n

If for some reason your outer tags come off, you will be able to prove that your bags are yours with the inside tag.<\/p>\n

9. Bring your own food if you want to avoid having to buy food on the plane<\/h3>\n

Stick with cold items, and don\u2019t choose highly spicy, garlicky, or other strong-smelling food out of respect for your seatmates.<\/p>\n
